Luck is the residue of design.

Here it is, finished. The first photo is the sock drying on the streatcher. While I was working the twenty five red rows for the foot, I was thinking I’d like to reinforce the toe too, so I repeated the cuff pattern. The plain grey on the toe is also knit with two strands of yarn although you can’t see that since they are the same color.
I like putting designs on the toe of a sock. I never know where I might take off my shoes. Even if I don’t, it is like having lace on my pettycoat. Even though nobody sees it, I know it is there and it makes me smile.
When I was young, I promised myself I’d always own at least one pair of red shoes and they would be outlandishly frivolous. I’ve kept my promise. I don’t know if I could even walk in my most recent pair (they are too fancy to wear with jeans so I don’t wear them much), but I look at them a lot. I’ve got this theory that red socks keep feet warmer than other colors. Grin.
I looked at your blog and decided I’ll post my wristlets today as soon as it gets light enough to take a photo of them. Yours are darling. I learned to knit when dinosaurs roamed the earth too.
beautiful– i love fancy heels and toes on socks..
and i love your design.
i am “due” a red pair of socks.. i have some red sock yarn.. (and orange, and yellow, and grey.. come to think of it just about every color!) but red socks are like red shoes–they are fun and flirty, and childlike all at the same time. (my last pair (only?) pair of red socks went to my sister a few years ago as a birhtday gift.)
The decreases are all in the plain grey area. I worked a 3-stitch decrease (slip 2 sts together as if to knit 2 together, k1, pass the 2 slipped sts over the knit st so the middle stitch lies on top of the other 2) on each side of the foot, every other round.
The toe looks great! What kind of toe is it?
What a beautiful sock! I love the heel and back flap too.
