Christmas is a time when you get homesick
even when you’re home.
HOT OFF THE NEEDLES—When this stocking is dry (it is currently being blocked) and the jingle bells are sewn on, it will go into the mail to Cole in Wilmington, NC.
My mother made countless Christmas stockings during her 95 years—all children, grand children, spouses and several friends have one. Now that she is gone, I’ve been knitting the Christmas stockings. This one is for my grandson Cole. I have one more to knit—grandson Owain will get the next one.
This yarn is Kraemer Sterling Silk & Silver. It is Merino wool, silk, nylon and sterling silver (sparkles) fine sock yarn. The pattern is on my …and a time to knit stockings CD.

How amazing. They are beautiful and what a wonderful gift to hand down to those we love the most. I am not good at socks, but I do afghans as my momento. Happy New Year!
Heee. Beautiful stocking, and I loved reading James’ comment.
I also loved seeing your ‘Shepherd’s Moon’ quilt.
New masthead is beautiful :^)

Katherine, what a beautiful heirloom stocking! So special, too, to carry on the family tradition.
I am so excited to see this sock. How sneaky are you? This really means alot to me.
For those who don’t know. When I was a child I do not remember not having my Christmas stocking that Grandma made. I thought that everyone’s grandmother made their Chistmas stocking for them. Until one day I saw some at a store. I asked what were these socks for. Mama told me that not everyone’s grandmother makes them. I still put mine up every year. It has a few loose sequins but I don’t mind. Mama made one for my wife Bev.
I called Mama yesterday because we had set up our tree and got out our decorations. I didn’t see a sock for Cole. I couldn’t remember if he had gotten one yet. I called Mama and she told me she hadn’t knit one. She asked me who elected her the knitter of the Christmas socks that was my Grandmothers thing. I told her that it was because of her last name and because I elected her. I felt like the mafia and I was turning the screws. I had no clue that she had it almost finished. Such a great surprise.
