I’ve always thought that a big laugh is
a really loud noise from the soul saying,
“Ain’t that the truth.”

I have at least one addiction; electronic publications. As with most addictions, it started out small and practical. I was teaching myself how to produce eBooks. Then I found audio books. Then I discovered I could listen to them and knit at the same time just like listening to the radio back when it had programming I loved to listen to (about 55 years ago). At first, I only ordered non-fiction, history books thinking I could expand my mind and turn out sock patterns galore. That is what is called, rationalization. I now know more about seven major wars than most history majors.
Then a friend recommended I read Annie Freeman’s Fabulous Traveling Funeral by Kris Radish. That is where the laughing comes in. The laughing, the crying, the memories—all those things that make me glad to be a woman. This led me to Kris Radish’s blog and more laughing.
Years ago, a friend of mine hurried in late to work, collapsed into her desk chair and said, “Only Erma Bombeck would understand why there are bare foot prints on my bathroom ceiling.” I love people who can level out rough spots in life with humor.
That reminds, me. I’ll start posting the designs I’ve conjured up while listening to books.
Katherine –
I just finished this book on your recommendation – I like it a lot! I would love to discuss it with someone who read it too – the voice had a different style to it than most fiction I read, more a telling of the events than of “living” them as the story progresses – do you know what I mean? Anyway – it really got me thinking and evaluating my life – turning 50 this year has been a big deal for me – so much has happened and changed – this book came at the right time for me to read it – thanks for the recommendation.
Take good care

I’ve been in love with audio books for years. I worked 14 years cleaning houses and had my earphones on and an old cassette player clipped to my pocket the whole time. Made the day go fast.
Later when I was doing courier work I kept audio CDs in my car.
Now I have my husband hooked on them when we take road trips to the trade shows/markets. On the way to Columbus and back we listened to Stephen King’s “Cell.”
On your advice, I just ordered Annie Freeman from our local library.
Katherine,
Thanks for the book idea. I have also knitted and listened to books. I had forgotten about it though. I had gotten books from the library. The one i remember listening to is called,”Embraced by the Light”. It was read by the author herself. I highly recommend this one.
Thank you for having this website. I just found it today for the first time. I am enjoying reading your stuff.
Hmmmm..that book’s in my pile somewhere; I need to find it!
I agree about people who can “level out rough spots in life with humor.” My mother was one of those. The nurses in the CCU remarked on her sense of humor. I’m sure it helped bring her through some tough times. And thanks for recommending the book. I love to find a book that makes me laugh.
