I want it said of me by those who knew me best,
that I always plucked a thistle and
planted a flower where I thought a flower would grow.
[Abraham Lincoln, birthday February 12, 1809]
A friend who knows me well enough to know that my gardening thumbs are not green gave me this orchid for my birthday last November. I’ve always wanted an orchid but figured it would only last a week if consigned to my care. I’ve posted this to prove my lovely orchid is just as pretty after two and a half months!
Valentine gift advice: Buy her an orchid. It lasts longer than cut flowers and is so elegant (like her, I’m sure).
Side effect warning: I’ve developed an urge to read all of the Nero Wolfe books I can find (Rex Stout wrote over seventy). Both Nero W. and Rex S. were orchid lovers.
I confess I have only read only of Rex Stout’s books, but I adore the A&E television series based on his work. Congratulations on your beautiful orchid!
Love your orchid! I have a bouquet of cut flowers in my living room. There are several orchids and they look a lot like your orchid. They were sent by my vet after we had our kitty put down ten days ago. I’ve never had any cut flowers hold up this long. Must be the influence of the orchids.
I’m so sorry about your kitty. My vet and the vet at the emergency clinic both sent me sympathy notes when I lost Toby in January. I’m thinking that the medical care system in the U.S. would improve a lot if veterinarians were in charge.
Love your orchid and I might be catching the Nero Wolf and Orchid Thief bug.
Overdrive is the app that our local public library uses. They offer many of the Nero Wolfe books as eBooks. I’ll bet your library does the same.
I read half way through The Orchid Thief last year. It is about the fascination and obsession with orchids down thru the ages. Very interesting read. I intend to re-read and finish it. Your orchid is beautiful!
Thank you for the book suggestion. I’ll look it up.
